Curtain Styles We Fit In Thomastown Homes
Sheer Curtains
In Thomastown’s north-facing living areas and front rooms that look onto the street, sheers give you daytime use of the space without sacrificing privacy. They handle the soft filtering of northern light well and bring a sense of lightness to rooms in older homes that can sometimes feel heavy and dated.
Blockout Curtains
Thomastown’s older homes don’t always have the insulation or glazing quality of newer builds, which means bedrooms heat up and cool down more dramatically with the seasons. Blockout curtains make up for this, blocking summer heat from the glass and retaining warmth in winter, making bedrooms more comfortable year-round.
Layered Curtains (Sheer + Blockout)
For Thomastown homes where the living room or main bedroom faces the street or a neighbouring property, layered curtains are the most complete solution on offer. Sheers manage the room during the day, the blockout panel draws across at night, and the two together mean the room works properly at all hours without needing two separate window treatments.
Wave Fold & S-Fold Styles
Thomastown’s renovated homes – and there are many, with residents investing in updating older properties – benefit from heading styles to match the modernised interior. Wave fold and S-fold curtains give a clean, contemporary finish that looks intentional in a room that’s been thoughtfully updated, without clashing with the character of an older building.
Why South Morang Homes Need Curtains That Actually Work
South Morang developed rapidly through the 2000s and early 2010s, leaving a suburb full of open-plan homes with large windows and limited shade. Here’s what we’re called in to fix most often.
The residential streets are well established but still lack the mature canopy that older suburbs benefit from. North and west-facing rooms heat up quickly on summer days and stay warm well into the evening. The right curtain weight and lining makes a direct difference to how those rooms feel without relying solely on air conditioning.
While South Morang’s housing stock isn’t quite as new as the newest estates, there are a good number of the homes that were originally fitted with basic, builder-grade window coverings which have either been removed or have simply worn out. Replacing them with properly made curtains changes how the room looks and functions in ways that are immediately noticeable.
The South Morang and Mernda rail corridor has medium density development with apartments and townhouses with smaller windows and different privacy needs and rooms where a standard curtain approach does not always apply. We work through each window individually and recommend what genuinely suits the space.
South Morang’s main arterial roads carry consistent traffic from early morning through to late evening. Homes a few streets away from these corridors, on the eastern side of Plenty Road in particular, pick up that road noise through windows which on their own provide little acoustic resistance. A curtain with proper interlining significantly reduces how much of that noise enters the room.
The owner-occupier community is active in maintaining and improving their homes. Loose curtains, gaps at the edges, faded fabric – anyone who visits, and the homeowner, can see it every day. We hang curtains that sit properly, look deliberate, and hold up over time.
The residential layout puts homes across narrow streets from one another, making front-facing rooms more exposed than residents often expect when they move in. Sheer curtains are a practical solution that does not require any compromise on how the room looks during the day, without blocking light or making rooms feel smaller.
